Green Street Boardwalk & Active Travel Link, Kilkenny
Kilgallen and Partners provided Civil and Structural Engineering services for Kilkenny County Council while also fulfilling the roles of Employer’s Representative and PSDP throughout the Feasibility, Statutory Approval, Detailed Design and Construction phases of the Green Street Boardwalk & Active Travel Link, Kilkenny.
The scheme delivers a key missing section of the River Nore Linear Park by providing a dedicated pedestrian and cycle connection between Riverside Gardens and the Bishop’s Meadows Riverside Park. A substantial section of the route was constructed as a piled elevated boardwalk positioned above a narrow stretch of riverbank subject to annual flooding, requiring careful coordination with existing flood defence infrastructure, environmental constraints and the historic setting of Green’s Bridge.
Kilgallen and Partners managed the project from concept through to completion, coordinating specialist environmental, ecological, archaeological, flood risk and lighting inputs as part of the statutory approvals and delivery process, while overseeing construction on site on behalf of the client. The project was successfully completed and opened to the public in May 2026.
